Mid-West Auto Trip, 2003

In early August 2003, hot summer in Texas, we travelled far north to escape the heat. Driving across Okalohoma, Missouri, Illinois, we arrived at the Great Lake area.

We spent almost a week in the Garden City, Chicago.  We visited University of Chicago and their most admired economics department. Campus visit was a big part of our trip. Besides U. of Chicago, we also stopped at Northwestern University, University of Wisconsin at Madison, University of Notre Dame and University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.

Afterwards, we went spontaneously further north, up to the upper pennisula of Michigan, or Soo, so called by the local folks. “Great lakes, Great times”. Michigan was a great fun place to be. We had some unforgettable times: riding bicycle in McKinaw Island along the lakeshore of Lake Huron, cruising along picturesque rocks national seashore on Lake Superior, listening to the waterfalls on the Tequamenon River, and wondering in the misty forest on the unpaved road leading to the small town of Munising…

On the way back, we stopped at the country music capital — Nashville TN. There, we visited the Country Music Hall of Fame ( I am a long-time country music fan) and Vanderbilt University.

The whole trip took us two weeks and we drove almost 5,000 miles. A whole lot of miles, isn’t it?
